My travels today will ultimately find me in Westland, a city close to Detroit where Wayne Lodge 112 is located. It is the largest Lodge in Michigan, boasting a membership of over 550 of the 32,000 Masons in the State. That's a pretty large membership to keep track of. We will be honoring Brother Denis Scott who became a Mason in England. Did you know that in England, the Lodge membership can only reach 50 members? Once they have 50, another Lodge is formed. They keep them small, so it is easier to keep track of one another, and there is a bigger commitment on the part of the Lodge members to make sure the Lodge is successful. You are expected to show up for the meetings, and if you cannot attend, you must inform the Lodge of your absence, which we call sending our regrets. Here in good ole Michigan, i fear we have fallen off courtesy wagon, we just don't show up. If an officer, we leave the Leadership scrambling to fill the station. Over time it sure would be nice to see us return to being civil and respectful, and sending our regrets when we cannot participate. We should be letting each other know how we are doing anyway, right ?
