I smell Pasties......
Many years ago my own lodge was comfortable just to move along every month with little or no community interaction. We were all about the individual man, and his quality. I remember coming to Lodge one night, and the roof was leaking. Next thing I know, the President of the Temple Association is signing a note at the bank for 13K to put on a new roof. Well, I've been the MTA Treasurer since 1986, and I can tell you, I've never seen the kind of money it would take to pay that loan back. So we sent out a letter to the membership asking them to donate their part of the cost on the roof ($300.00) at that time. Some did, and it was appreciated. Then one of our members started making portable fish shacks, he sold a bunch, and each time he would see me, it was to hand me several checks to put on the principal of the loan. We were still a bit short, and Voila !!! The Lodge decided that Pasty Making was its future. I think they borrowed the recipe from the Methodist Women, but it worked non-the-less, and fast forwarding 2 decades, we are still making pasties. Not a thousand at a time like it used to be, but 5 to 6 hundred every couple months. They are a popular item in the community, and everyone looks forward to our pasty making events. I personally am one of the dough makers. When I'm in town, its Flour, Crisco, Salt and Water...... Just drove by the Lodge, and I smelled me some fresh baked Pasties. Oh, and that Loan, it was paid off early, in fact 2 years to get it paid in Full.... Gee, I wonder whats for supper tonight ;-)
