Bart Porter, M.I. Grand Master |
Just as I pulled in to Madison Wisconsin, I was informed that our Michigan Masonic Family has lost on of its Leaders. Bart Porter from Owosso has answered the summons of the Grand Architect of the Universe and has laid down the working tools of life. Most Illustrious Companion Bart became the Leader of the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons this past August. I have known Bart for many years, and always looked to the day he would serve as Most Illustrious Grand Master. I spoke with Bart just a few weeks ago when he called me to offer his regrets that he could not attend Grand Lodge due to his advancing illness. What a man! Unfortunately, the ravages of cancer over came him, and the leadership of the York Rite Council this day, will fall on the capable shoulders of Right Illustrious David Boring. Having served as M.I.G.M of the Council myself, I pause to reflect on the great men who have led that Body of Masonry, and can truly vouch that many men have been instructed in the tenets of Leadership, through the service these men and others in the Royal and Select Masons of Michigan have rendered.
Earlier this year we lost another P.M.I.G.M, George Sellars, who was, at the time of his passing, serving as Most Puissant General Grand Master of Cryptic Masons International.
My heart is tender for Bart's wife Jozette and his family during a most difficult transition of losing the Patriarch of their home.
Even though its been a while, I know George's wife Brenda and their son Paul are still adjusting to the loss of George, as we all are.
Two men, years of knowledge, mentors to many. Soft and safe my Brothers, I honor you for all you have done for the fraternity we call Michigan Masonry......
