A once in a lifetime opportunity - Presenting a 75 yr membership Award

MWGM and Bud Rifenberg
I cleared my schedule and headed to Grand Rapids. Wasn't sure who our older member was going to be.  I arrived to a grand welcome by over 55 Brothers of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas.  I had 11 of my Grand Lodge Officers, BGP, DDI and Past Grand Masters present also.  We are visiting Grand Rapids Lodge No. 34 and before the Lodge meeting a Limo car pulled up and out came brother "Bud" Rifenberg, 94 years young of Vandalia Lodge No. 290, and his son Paul.  Bud and his son came in, we met, took some photo ops, and then sat down to get to know each other.  Bud is a delightful, very active man for his age. In fact the only thing I seen that was slowing him down was a walker he used to maneuver with.  Heck, If I make it to 94 I'll be sporting a Jazzy scooter, and maybe a chauffer to direct traffic....

Anyway we talked of the good old days, of his growing up in the Vandalia area, more particularly Jones, and his knowledge of those small villages that really didn't exist except we used them to tell directions to get around. Kinda like, go to the end of the corn field and turn left, haa haa.
75 yrs of membership
After a delightful hour of refreshments and conversation, we went down to the Lodge Room and I presented Bud with his Pin and Certificate.  I believe we were both touched.  I with his amazing life, and he with the love we have for him.  Well worth the time, Thanks Bud for the visit and allowing me to present your 75 year membership Award. After the presentation, all non Masons were excused and Grand Rapids Lodge No. 34 proceeded to their normal business.  As Grand Master, I and my Grand Officers were received with Grand Honors.  I could only be with the brothers for an hour, as I had to make my way back to God's Country this same evening.

I thank my Officers for traveling with me, It always warms my heart to see each one of them.
