A Local visit - 150 miles one way
Some complain about traveling 15 miles to get to a Masonic Meeting. I deem it an honor to take a few minutes to travel 150 miles to the East end of the Upper Peninsula to visit my Brothers of Les Cheneaux Lodge # 590 in Cedarville. I purposely didn't tell them I was coming, they didn't have the "Grand Master is in the House" jitters for more than 15 minutes, and still had a good attendance with 15 brothers. They voted on a young man, 36 yrs old, to receive the Masonic Degrees and become a Mason. There was excitement in the lodge, this young man is a sub-mariner, which here means something. A lot of the members spend or spent a lot of time on the water, either for work or in the Service of our Country. This Lodge historically has membership comprised of Boat captains and others who make their living traversing the Les Cheneaux Islands and De Tour Village waterways. The WM, John Shoberg related some great history about relatives and the Boat show coming up soon, which will feature a early Vessel, thought to have a unique build history. Lots of pride in this lodge..... quiet, yet strong, willing to work when called upon. A bonus, they are working side by side with the local Knights of Columbus. Oh, did I mention that my Cousin, William G. LeVeque of East Lansing is the state membership chairman for the Knights of Columbus ? Bill LeVeque is everywhere ;-)
