A look at Grand Island Lodge (my mother Lodge) from 1899

On the first day of June, I gave Grand Island Lodge. No. 422, permission to occupy the hall of the I. O. O. F. until Sept. 1st. That time has now expired, and this Lodge is now snugly ensconced in a home of its own.

At our last annual communication, charters were granted to Grand Island Lodge, No. 422, located at Munising, and Grand Marais Lodge, No. 423, located at Grand Marais. Both of these Lodges have since been instituted by Worshipful Brother W. W. Osband, acting as my proxy, who dedicated the halls, instituted the Lodges and installed the Officers, and the two new Lodges are now members of our Sisterhood of Chartered Lodges.
Some delay occurred in the institution of Grand Marais Lodge, owing to the absence in New Jersey of Worshipful Brother Staats, Master of the Lodge, U. D)., who had left orders that nothing be done toward instituting the Lodge until his return. As soon as my attention was called to the matter, I directed the Senior Warden to proceed in the absence of the Worshipful Brother; and, my directions being speedily complied with, Brother Staats suddenly returned from his visit and no further trouble occurred.
During my visit to the Upper Peninsula, hereinafter referred to, I visited both of these Lodges, and I am greatly pleased at the bright future in store for both of them. The Lodge at Munising, particularly, is in exceptionally flourishing condition, well officered, with plenty of material, and its members are bright and enthusiastic....................... Frank T. Lodge, Grand Master
