For many children, the end of School has happened, is happening, or in a few Days will be happening. Time for vacations, being with friends, making new friends, fairs, traveling, holidays and the beach.
Many Lodges will be "going dark" for the summer, which means no meetings in July and August. Lodges must meet a minimum of 10 times a year, and have a minimum of seven members present, one of which must be the Master or one of the Wardens of the Lodge. Also to have a legal meeting the Charter or Warrant must be present. Many Lodges ask to have "Outdoor Degrees" or March in the Local Parade, all of which require them to ask me as Grand Master for a Special Dispensation to participate in Public Events. I am more than happy to grant these, as it does get the good name of Masonry out in the public eye.
Today starts the growing season in the U.P., usually around 75 days. I am pretty sure the ice in Munising Bay has moved North, and frost will be a fond memory for the next 120 days.
As we change gears for Summer, let us not forget the Widows of our deceased Brothers, and the children they left behind. Let us not forget to include our new members in the events of the Summer that the Lodge may hold. I will be heading up to L'anse to visit the Brothers, and Wednesday I will be participating in presentation of a 75 Year membership pin to one of our Brothers in Grand Rapids.....
Schools out, but Masonry is busier than ever........ as it should be.
